Sacramental Preparation

Baptism

Baptism class is a requirement for Baptism at Sacred Heart. A class is offered four times a year – January, April, July, and October. Pre-registration is required by calling the parish office (634-3813). Parents are encouraged to attend a class prior to the baby’s birth. For questions about whether a class is required, contact the parish office.

Reconciliation

Students in second grade prepare for their first confession in their Religious Ed classes and with their parents. The students celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation individually in early to mid-February each year.

First Eucharist

Students in second grade prepare for their First Eucharist in their Religious Ed classes and with their parents. Following an informal interview, First Eucharist is celebrated as a class in early May each year.

Confirmation

Students in tenth grade begin their immediate preparation for Confirmation with an informational meeting in May the year prior to their Confirmation. Service hours, spiritual journaling, work with sponsors and parents continue until Confirmation. Preparation also occurs in their Religious Ed class during their 11th grade year. Following an interview reviewing the candidate’s preparation, the Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated. Currently we celebrate the sacrament each April or May at St. Mary’s in Alexandria with area parishes.

Marriage

The present Diocesan wedding policy requires that you contact the parish at least 6 months prior to your wedding. This is necessary so that all the required steps can be completed in a timely manner. To begin your marriage preparation or for questions about the marriage preparation policy, contact Father Peter at the parish office.
