St. John Nepomuk Church has been a cornerstone of faith in the Lake Reno area for more than 150 years. Catholic settlers, many of Bohemian (Czech) heritage, began arriving in the area in 1866. In the early days they would gather in homes to pray the Rosary, sing hymns and maintain their faith between visits of missionary priests. In 1870 a log church was built.
As the congregation grew,, a larger church was constructed in 1887. As the congregation continues to flourish, Fr. Frank First was welcomes as the first resident, pastor in 1916. Tragedy struck in 1946 when the church was destroyed by fire. The cornerstone of the present church was laid in 1947.
St. John Nepomuk continues to be a small country church overlooking the country side in Pope County. Generations of families have worshipped, received the sacraments and call St. John Nepomuk their spiritual home.
